Economic Dispatch and Unit Commitment

  • Principles of cost curves and incremental heat rates
  • Single-area Economic Dispatch (ED) modeling and calculations
  • Multi-area ED and managing inter-area power transfers
  • Advanced Unit Commitment (UC) and scheduling techniques
  • Handling generation constraints, ramping, and minimum loads
  • The role of maintenance scheduling in long-term optimization

 

DAY 3

Automatic Generation Control and Frequency Management

  • Fundamentals of frequency control and tie-line bias control
  • Design and tuning of the Automatic Generation Control (AGC) loop
  • Primary, secondary, and tertiary reserve management
  • Advanced AGC concepts: generation rate limits and deadband optimization
  • Managing imbalances and Area Control Error (ACE) minimization

Optimal Power Flow (OPF) and Voltage Control
